A Trip to Kerala

Overview

This journey takes us deep into the vibrant heart of South India — a region renowned for its lush landscapes, ancient traditions, and the fragrant hills of tea and spice plantations.

Our itinerary unfolds in two chapters. First, we’ll explore the cultural port town of Kochi, the emerald hills of Idukki, the tea-covered slopes & the forests of Thekkady, and the tranquil backwaters of Munroe Island. We’ll also visit the ashram of Amma — a revered spiritual figure of modern India.

Then, to gently integrate all that we've experienced, we’ll conclude with a rejuvenating week of Ayurvedic treatments in Varkala, a peaceful seaside town perched between cliffs and the Arabian Sea.

We’ve chosen comfortable yet simple accommodations in double rooms — without unnecessary luxury. In a country where economic disparities are stark, this choice reflects a conscious intention: to offer a more accessible journey, and above all, a more human and authentic experience, grounded in local realities.

The tour is designed for a small group of no more than 10 participants to maintain an atmosphere of simplicity, presence, and genuine connection. This is not about merely visiting a destination — it's about inhabiting it for a while, meeting its people, and feeling its pulse.

India can be disorienting, even overwhelming at times. It shakes up our assumptions and exposes us to new perspectives. But it’s often within this very discomfort that the magic of travel unfolds — a moment of opening, a shift, a quiet transformation.

What makes it so special

Highlights

Five days of Ayurvedic treatments by the sea — personalized care, gentle yoga, and holistic wisdom to realign body and spirit. A true invitation to rest, integrate, and transform.

Feel the echoes of Kerala’s colonial past as you stroll through Fort Kochi’s cobbled streets — where Portuguese, Dutch, and Indian cultures meet. Bohemian cafés, ancient churches, vibrant street art, and Kathakali performances set the tone for this soulful journey.

Let the cool mountain air of Idukki (Munnar) embrace you as you walk through misty tea plantations, spice gardens, and quiet forests. A return to nature — wild, lush, and serene.

Step into the spiritual world of Amma. Daily meditation, devotional singing, and the simplicity of communal life offer a unique chance to slow down, reconnect, and experience Indian spirituality from the inside.

Far from the tourist trail, discover the peaceful life of Munroe Island. Canoe through narrow canals, share moments with a local family, and let yourself be carried by the rhythm of water and silence.

This trip is an invitation to inhabit Kerala — not just to visit. With a small group and mindful rhythm, we choose connection over consumption, authenticity over appearance. A voyage where the inner and outer landscapes meet.

After graduating in Technology in Delhi, I stepped away from the corporate world to follow a deeper calling: to explore the world and create journeys that awaken the soul.

Living across three countries and traveling through more than 20 has taught me that true adventure lies not just in places, but in the connections we make along the way — with people, traditions, and ourselves.

Through The Sangha Project, I co-create transformative experiences that blend eco-conscious travel, ancient wisdom, and meaningful cultural exchange. These journeys are invitations — to slow down, to listen deeply, and to rediscover the sacred in the everyday.

Let’s walk this path together — with curiosity, with intention, and with open hearts.

Where are we going?

Itinerary

Kochi

-City of art and history | 18 October

Arrival in Kochi on October 18. Once a key trading post in the Indies, Kochi is a city shaped by many influences — Portuguese, Dutch, British, and of course, Indian. We’ll wander through the old streets of Fort Kochi, discovering art galleries, bohemian cafés, and traditional fishing nets. In the evening, we’ll attend a Kathakali dance performance, a vibrant introduction to Kerala’s rich cultural tape.

Idukki & Surroundings (Munnar)

-- Mountains, tea & spices | 19 - 21 October

We’ll settle into the lush hills of Idukki, a wilder and more hidden side of Kerala. From this peaceful green retreat, we’ll explore iconic landscapes: the rolling tea plantations of Munnar in countless shades of green, the spice-scented trails of cardamom, and the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary — where we may cross paths with elephants. Each day brings an opportunity for exploration, followed by evenings of quiet, surrounded by mountains and stillness.

Amritapuri – Amma’s Ashram

-A spiritual immersion | 22-24 October

More than a place, Amritapuri is an experience. It is home to Amma — the globally revered spiritual figure — and a center for learning and devotion. Life at the ashram is simple, guided by seva (selfless service), meditation, devotional singing, and deep human connection. This is a time to pause, realign, and experience the Indian approach to the divine.

Munroe Island

-Secret backwaters | 25 & 26 October

A hidden gem in the heart of the backwaters, Munroe Island is a peaceful haven. Here, we’ll glide gently through the canals in traditional canoes, surrounded by palm trees, birdsong, and colorful village homes. Life flows with the rhythm of the tides. We’ll stay with Vishnu and his family, offering a warm window into local life and genuine hospitality.

Varkala

-- Beach, relaxation & Ayurvedic treatments | 27 - 31 October

Perched on red cliffs facing the ocean, Varkala is a unique blend of spirituality, beachside charm, and well-being.
This is where our journey concludes — with five days of Ayurvedic care:
• Individual consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor
• Personalized treatment plan with two therapies per day
• Gentle morning yoga sessions
• An introductory workshop on Ayurveda, exploring the doshas and holistic healing

There will also be time to stroll through town, visit local temples, relax on the beach, and simply let the experience settle. A precious pause — to slow down, rejuvenate, and close the journey with softness and intention.

Departure

-Taxi to airport | 1 November

After breakfast, private transfers are arranged to the airport. You leave with a full heart, sacred memories, and a deeper connection to South India’s living traditions.
