India is not a country you visit simply to tick landmarks off a list. It is a vast land where every region offers its own way to slow down and reconnect—with the towering peaks of the Himalayas and Ladakh, the sacred banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh, the Tibetan monasteries of Dharamshala and Spiti, the tranquil backwaters and beaches of Kerala, and Bodhgaya, where the Buddha attained enlightenment. Today, more and more women are seeking a truly meaningful spiritual journey in India—far from the usual tourist routes—to breathe, rest, and reconnect with themselves.
At The Sangha Project, we believe that an authentic journey through India is much more than visiting famous places. It is an encounter—with a place, a culture, its people, and above all, with yourself. In this guide, we explore the incredible diversity of India's spiritual destinations and introduce our retreats designed especially for women seeking peace, purpose, and transformation.
India is home to countless spiritual traditions, each deeply rooted in its own region. Hinduism flourished along the banks of the Ganges, where sages (rishis) have meditated for centuries. Buddhism was born in Bodhgaya and continues to thrive in Dharamshala, home of the Dalai Lama, as well as in the high valleys of Ladakh and Spiti. Yoga developed both in the ashrams of Rishikesh and within the traditions of South India, especially Kerala. For centuries, monks, pilgrims, and spiritual seekers have traveled through these regions in search of silence, wisdom, and meditation. Even today, that unique energy can still be felt—whether you're standing beside the Ganges, inside a Himalayan monastery, or on a peaceful beach in Kerala.
What makes a spiritual journey in India so unforgettable isn't just its breathtaking landscapes. It's the pace of life it invites you to embrace—slower, more mindful, and more connected to yourself. Away from constant notifications and everyday distractions, you rediscover simple pleasures: watching the sunrise, listening to temple bells, embracing moments of silence, and experiencing these traditions in one of the world's most vibrant countries. This is exactly what we strive to recreate in every one of our retreats.
One of India's greatest strengths is its incredible diversity. There isn't just one way to meditate or retreat from everyday life—there are many. In Rishikesh, practitioners explore Hatha Yoga, pranayama breathing, and Vedic chanting along the sacred Ganges. In Bodhgaya, beneath the Bodhi Tree where Buddha attained enlightenment, Vipassana meditation retreats welcome those seeking silence. Dharamshala, Ladakh, and Spiti immerse visitors in Tibetan Buddhist teachings, meditation, and life in ancient mountain monasteries. Kerala offers a different path through Ayurveda, traditional therapies, and peaceful backwater experiences.
This diversity means there is a spiritual journey in India for every traveler—whether you're looking for intensive yoga practice, silent meditation, Buddhist philosophy, or Ayurvedic healing. It is this richness that we aim to reflect across all of our India tours and retreats.
Among our most sought-after experiences is our women's spiritual retreat in Rishikesh, led by Sandhya Chandrashekar. Born into a family of Vedic singers in Tamil Nadu, Sandhya trained in the tradition of T.K.V. Desikachar. Today, she teaches Indian philosophy, sacred chanting (bhajans), and yoga in French with remarkable authenticity, combining deep traditional knowledge with a compassionate and structured approach.
This Yoga and Indian Philosophy Retreat in Rishikesh welcomes only 8–10 women per group in a peaceful riverside setting on the banks of the Ganges. The retreat includes two daily sessions on the foundations of Sanātana Dharma, gentle yoga classes suitable for all levels, ritual bathing in the sacred Ganges, evening chanting circles and group sharing, optional Ayurvedic massages, and three days dedicated to exploring Rishikesh and its surroundings.
Designed specifically for women, this retreat offers a safe, supportive environment where participants can slow down, reflect, and connect with like-minded travelers. It embodies the true spirit of a women's spiritual retreat in India: compassionate guidance, authentic teachings, and enough free time to absorb the experience without feeling rushed.
There are many travel agencies offering "spiritual" trips to India. What makes us different is that we travel with you, not simply for you. Every destination we recommend has been personally explored by our team. We've stayed in the accommodations, met our local guides face-to-face, and carefully selected every experience—from the Himalayas to Kerala and Rishikesh.
We intentionally keep our groups small so every traveler feels seen, heard, and supported—not lost among dozens of tourists. Most importantly, our team is also on its own journey of yoga, meditation, and personal growth. Our mission is to create experiences that bring more kindness, awareness, and peace into the world.

Not at all. Our retreats welcome complete beginners as well as experienced practitioners. The goal isn't performance—it's reconnecting with yourself, your breath, and your body.
It depends on your destination. October to March is ideal for Rishikesh, Kerala, and the Himalayan foothills. June to September is generally the best season for Ladakh and Spiti.
Absolutely. Most participants travel solo. One of the greatest strengths of the experience is arriving alone and leaving with meaningful friendships formed in a safe, supportive environment.
The retreat includes daily teachings, twin-share accommodation, three sattvic meals per day (some tours include breakfast only), all local transportation including airport transfers, and a pre-departure video preparation call. International flights, visas, and travel insurance are not included, although we can assist with these arrangements if needed.
You can view all retreat dates and pricing on the retreat page, or contact us directly to discuss your plans before reserving your place.
